Funding

All children aged 2, 3 and 4 are entitled to up to 15 hours a week of free funded hours of early education (subject to a maximum of 570 hours per year). Children become eligible for a free funded place at the start of the school term following their 2nd birthday and the entitlement lasts up until the term they turn 5 (the term of their 5th birthday).

Some 3 and 4 year old children who are taking up part or all of their free early education entitlement will also qualify for additional funding called the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP). This additional funding is to enhance the quality of their early learning to help eligible children do as well as they can in their early years. For this reason the Government is giving EYPP funding to childcare providers (nurseries, schools, and childminders) to support the development, learning and care of the eligible children of up to £300 per year.

Eligibility:

Children will be eligible for the EYPP if parents are in receipt of any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ – the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Children will also qualify if they:

  • Are currently a local authority “looked-after” child and have been in local authority care for at least 1 day
  • Have been adopted from care
  • Have left care through special guardianship or a child arrangement order.

How do I claim the funding?

The funding in not for families to claim. If your child is eligible, the preschool will claim the EYPP funding directly  from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The funding must be used by the preschool to improve the quality of your child’s early year’s education.

What will I have to sign?

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead will need your consent to check if you are eligible. We will ask you to complete and sign a simple form to gather the necessary information to run the check, including your National Insurance number.

Will this affect my benefits?

No, the EYPP will not have any effect on your benefits.

What can the provider use the additional funding for?

Our preschool has freedom to spend this funding in the way we believe is best; we must be able to demonstrate to Ofsted how we are spending it, and what difference it makes to the eligible children's development and progress.

We can use the EYPP to raise the quality of our early years education offer in a number of ways. For example:

  • provide a range of new play, learning and activity experiences
  • fund additional activities and sessions, such as breakfast or club lunch
  • provide additional support such as speech, language and communication.

The EYPP funding is not a supplement to fees, and cannot be used to reduce charges for parents who pay for childcare. Providers may also choose to use the funding for the professional development and upskilling of the staff who work directly with the eligible children.
