Design Technology
Our Design & Technology scheme of work inspire pupils to be innovative and creative thinkers who have an appreciation for the product design cycle through ideation, creation and evaluation.
We want pupils to develop the confidence to take risks, through drafting design concepts, modelling, and testing and to be reflective learners who evaluate their work and the work of others. We aim to build an awareness of the impact of design and technology on our lives and encourage pupils to become resourceful, enterprising citizens who will have the skills to contribute to future design advancements.
We follow the Kapow primary’s design and technology scheme, where pupils respond to design briefs and scenarios that require consideration of the needs of others, developing their skills in six key areas:
- Mechanisms
- Structures
- Textiles
- Cooking and nutrition
- Electrical systems (Years 3-6)
- Digital world (Years 3-6).
Our design and technology curriculum forms an integral part of our Explore STEM curriculum and complements and enriches the units of inquiry taught across the school.
Inquiry-based learning
Our Design and technology curriculum allows our children’s imagination to run wild. They will be challenged to solve problems and enjoy experimentation to find answers. Our framework is for them to be free from inhibitions and fear of failure and simply experience, in order to grow their knowledge. Read more about our inquiry-based approach to learning.
