Competitions

We believe that engaging in school competitions offers children the chance to extend their learning beyond the classroom. In addition to being exciting events, competitions provide valuable learning experiences, such as:

• Create a practical purpose for children’s learning and help contextualise it
• Offer a friendly environment where children can learn how to win and lose respectfully and gracefully
• Help build confidence
• Teach children how to work within teams and develop a sense of camaraderie
• Improve children’s social skills
• Test children against their peers and stimulate self-improvement.

Participating in competitions plays a crucial role in shaping a child's overall development. By actively engaging in these events, children have the opportunity to showcase their talents, learn from others, and grow both academically and socially.

Competitive Enrichment

As part of the Bellevue Place Education Trust, our school has the chance to participate in numerous annual trust-wide competitions. These provide our pupils the opportunity to collaborate with students from other schools, build teamwork, develop resilience, and hone their talents in a variety of areas.

Competitions we offer include:

• Top of the Rocks: A Times Tables Rockstars competition for Year 4 pupils. This competition helps children practice their times tables and prepares them for the national Multiplication Tables Check.
  
  
• The Queen’s Gambit: A popular chess tournament that develops mathematical and concentration skills, resilience, cognitive function, and patience. This competition is facilitated by Chess in Schools and Communities.
  
  
• Cicero Cup Debate Competition: This competition enhances skills in rebuttal (respectful and polite listening followed by constructive counterarguments), confidence (expressed through tone of voice and body language), and explanation (reasoning and defending their point of view). It is facilitated by The Noisy Classroom.
  
  
• Poetry Recital Competition: The aim of this competition is to celebrate the world of words and poetry, while encouraging the enjoyment of performing poetry to an audience. It fosters reading, memory retention, and builds confidence.

Sport Competition

As an active member of the Ascot & Maidenhead Schools Sports Partnership (AMSSP), we strive to give every child the opportunity to represent the school in a sporting activity at least once.

Children are given the chance to participate in a range of activities, including introductory workshops, enrichment tournaments, and competitive fixtures. In addition to the AMSSP, we also take part in trust-wide tournaments and competitive sports with schools in the BPET Berkshire Hub.
